Plantar Fascia

The plantar fascia is an important structure in the foot. The plantar fascia is the long ligament that attaches the heel to the forefoot, meaning that the plantar fascia plays a significant role in supporting the arch of the foot. The plantar fascia is extremely strong and needs to be as it is part of the foot’s natural arch support mechanism, known as the windlass mechanism. If this mechanism does not function properly or is overloaded then there are a number of things that can go wrong with the plantar fascia such as plantar fasciitis which is a very common musculoskeletal problem of the foot.
